PROGRESS REPORT ON FORMATION OF ROTARY CLUB OF BUKEERERE
(as of April 21, 2025)

CP Augustine Kirungi, Charter president
BACKGROUND
1.Following the identification of an upcoming community with a rapidly growing population and very many community needs, the idea of starting the Rotary Club of Bukeerere was conceived by Rtn Catherine Barasa Asekenye of RC Sonde in 2023. The idea was motivated by the need to provide an opportunity to the Bukeerere community to join and benefit from Rotary. It was also driven by the fact that many surrounding communities now have vibrant Rotary clubs providing services to their communities. Although a relatively well-organized community, the start of this club faced many challenges and thus needed to be self-paced over time. It’s foundation wouldn’t benefit from a rushed or normal process of club formation.
The community understanding and buy in was essential. One of the major challenges was identification of a convenor within the community, a meeting venue, agreeing on a meeting time and date among others. The club has since addressed these start up challenges and has also taken advantage of the RI flexibility to start without a sponsor club but instead with a strong support team of Rotarians from different clubs mainly RC Bweyogerere Namboole, RC Mbalwa, RC Sonde, RC Mukono who occasionally visit to support the club. The club finally identified a very capable Charter President Augustine Kirungi who together with community leader Mr Muwasi Gerald Muhumuza and the NCA Kate Barasa, he has amazingly turned around the growth and development of the club as well as the understanding of Rotary.

MEETING DATE, VENUE AND TIME
- RC Bukeerere is an evening club which meets on Fridays from 7:00pm – 8:00pm, a convenient time chosen by the prospective members of the club the majority of who work in Kampala and Mukono but reside in Bukeerere. The official physical meeting place and address of the club is Volt Lounge along Bukeerere Road, also owned by one of the prospective members. Members started the initial meetings in different places within the community. The club has now settled in this meeting venue which also serves as the main community entertainment and meeting place.
CLUB ADVISER
- The RC Bukeerere is supported by PAG Catherine Barasa Asekenye. There being no Sponsor club, the club adviser has constituted team of well identified Rotarians from diverse clubs to inspire, mentor and motivate the prospective members. Although a few clubs have expressed interest to mother this club, the reference so far is to establish this club with a support team. For now, the club will therefore continue under the guidance of the very committed and experienced club adviser and committee.
